Courtesy Procedures at Lake Tahoe Boat Launches

When launching your new boat or jet ski rental at one of the surrounding Lake Tahoe, CA boat launches there are certain courtesies the boat’s captain is expected to follow. Following these procedures when visiting any Lake Tahoe boat rental launch will allow you to engage in a safe launch as quickly as possible. Even though boat launch rules can very from location to location you are expected to follow these courtesy procedures no matter where you are docking your boat rental.

Courtesy Procedures at Lake Tahoe Boat Launches

  • Test your boat engine prior to approaching the boat ramp. This should be done while the boat rental is still on the trailer and will prevent launching the boat, finding out something is wrong and having to again extract it from Lake Tahoe.
  • Whether you are entering or exiting the water, be sure that your boat rental is prepared before you reach the ramp area. This includes raising the propeller, loading gear and informing your boat passengers of what they are to do when exiting or entering the water. This will ensure that you do not block the ramp, wasting yours and other boater’s time.
  • If possible use two or three people to help launch and retrieve the boat. One should be operating the towing vehicle, one should be operating the boat and a third, if possible, should be standing on land helping direct.
  • While you are launching your boat rental all passengers that are not helping with the boat launch process should wait ashore, not on the docks. Be sure you know exactly where every child passenger is through the entire process.
  • After launching your boat rental have the person who was driving move the boat away from the launch ramp and into a waiting dock slot. Have the driver of the towing vehicle exit the water as quickly and safely as possible and park in a designated trailer parking spot.

Following these simple courtesy procedures while launching your boat will be the positive beginning to your family fun at Lake Tahoe.
