Lake Don Pedro

Make Memories with These 3 Outdoor Family-Friendly Activities

With summer coming to an end, there’s still plenty of time to plan some family-friendly outdoor activities near the Lake Don Pedro area. Discover deep caverns and caves, go back in time to the gold rush age, or stand in awe surrounded by the largest trees you’ve ever seen. At H2O Craft Rentals & Repair, we highly recommend visiting these three parks for massive amounts of family fun that everyone will enjoy.

1. Columbia State Historic Park

Only 19 miles from Lake Don Pedro, Columbia State Historic Park is a gold rush town that is fully operational to this day. Visitors can take a step back in time and experience what life was like back in 1860s California. Take in a performance at the Fallon Theatre, visit a historic saloon, or treat your kiddos to hand-dipped ice cream. You can also purchase gifts such as candles, wooden toys, and old-fashioned clothing. There’s even a place where your family can dress up in 1860s clothes for a memorable family photo.

2. Moaning Cavern Adventure Park

For the active family, Moaning Cavern Adventure Park is a must-see destination. Tour the largest single cave chamber in California when you take the Spiral Tour. Once you reach the bottom, you’ll have a chance to see the marble deposits of the Calavera Formation. This park also features a climbing tower, rappelling, zip lining, ax throwing, and panning for gemstones. Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop to grab yourself a souvenir. Moaning Cavern Adventure Park is a short 29-mile distance from Lake Don Pedro.

3. Calaveras Big Trees State Park

When you tell your kids they’ll be exploring big trees, they won’t believe how big they are until they see them. This state park is home to two groves of giant sequoias. Walk through the trails and discover the natural beauty of these gigantic trees as well as many other breathtaking views. Explore ancient volcanic formations, natural meadows, and inland waters like the Stanislaus River and Beaver Creek. This park is located 48 miles from the Lake Don Pedro area.
