5 Tips for Boat Rental Safety

At H2O Craft Rentals & Repair, we want to make sure you’re equipped to handle your boat rental and stay safe, especially if this is your first time out on the water. Even if you’re familiar with the California lakes, you want to make sure you’re prepared for the unexpected and take the necessary precautions. Here are a few ways you can do just that.

1. Keep an eye on the weather.

Be sure to check the forecast before heading out on the water, and don’t push the limits when it comes to ominous clouds, lightning, or strong winds. If the weather looks at all threatening, then stick on the safe side, and take your boat rental back to the marina.

2. Use life jackets.

At H2O Craft Rentals & Repair, we provide you with life jackets for a reason—to keep you safe. You never know when a sudden wave could throw you or your passengers off balance, and if by chance someone ends up overboard, you want them to stay safe and above water. Use your life jackets the entire time you’re out on the water.

3. Don’t consume alcohol while operating a boat.

While sipping a beer out on the water sounds like a relaxing way to spend your vacation, we recommend that you forego drinking any alcohol due to increased safety concerns. Alcohol can affect your judgment and make you more susceptible to getting into an accident.

4. Don’t forget your common sense.

You have a brain for a reason, so don’t forget to use it while operating a boat rental. Many of the same principles you learned a long time ago—like respecting the people (or boats) around you or minding speed limits—need to be observed even when on vacation. Pay attention to navigational aids, signage, and to all the vessels around you.

5. Get boat safety certified.

If you have never taken a boat safety course, we highly recommend that you do so before booking a boat rental. You’ll feel more equipped, and we’ll even knock $35 off your rental rate for completing the boat safety course.
